Ghost Hunting Equipment

If you've always wanted to try ghost hunting but thought that you needed equipment to do so, then you've come to the right place!  Try out what we have during your visit and see what works for you!  Not everyone uses it all, and many people don't use any equipment.   Get your hands on it here as a part of your Conover ghost experience!  Not all of the equipment will be available every night.

GEOPOD

Picture
Commonly known as a geophone, this device measures vibrations.  After placed on a surface and calibrated, the colored lights on front indicate the occurrence of vibration and its intensity.

Environmental Detection Meter

The MF-1 / EDI (Environmental Detection Meter) is three devices in one! It features EMF detection, a thermometer, and a geophone to measure vibration.

ELECTRASCOPE

Picture
The ElectraScope measures triboelectric fields, or static charge.  The two tubes at top light up as different colors to indicate the direction of the energy source.

EMF Detector

Picture
This meter detects the presence of electromagnetic fields (EMF).  The device has a meter to measure strength of the energy, as well as flashing red and beeping.  There are several theories regarding the possible relationship between EMF and ghosts.  Come to find out which one you believe!

Digital Ambient Thermometer

Picture
Used to measure air temperature in an area.  Cold spots may be an indication of the presence of ghosts.

Infrared Surface Temperature Thermometer

Picture
This thermometer measures the temperature of whatever surface or object it targets.  It projects a laser to guide your aim.

Mel Meter

Picture
A combination of EMF detector and ambient thermometer in one piece of equipment!

Spirit Box

Picture
Essentially a modified radio that emits white noise.  The theory behind this is that the presence of this type of sound may help ghosts speak to us.  We also use a Faraday pouch; this blocks out radio signals to reduce the likelihood of  confusing radio broadcasts with spirit voices.

Digital Recorder

Picture
Audio recorders run throughout the investigations to catch any sounds or electronic voice phenomena (EVP).  After listening to recorded audio, we sometimes hear voices or noises that were not heard by our ears when the recordings were made!  Those sounds are considered to be EVP.  We will sometimes conduct "EVP Burst Sessions".  We will ask a short series of questions, then replay the recording immediately to listen for responses.  If we do hear something, we can ask another series of questions based on that.

Laser Grid (Pen)

Picture
Projects a grid of green laser dots across a room.  Should anything move between the laser and the wall, it may disrupt the pattern enough for us to see.  This style is battery powered and mounted on a mini-tripod.  It’s very portable, but needs to cool after about ten minutes of use.

Laser Grid (Plug-In)

Picture
This grid operates essentially the same as the pen style, but projects a larger pattern and can run for hours without overheating.  It must be plugged into an outlet, which makes it less portable than the pen style.

DVR

Picture
Our digital video recorder system uses four cameras with night vision to watch for any paranormal activity during investigations.  It’s not used every night.

Full-Spectrum Camera

Picture
A modified video camera that sees beyond the visible light spectrum.  The main advantage is being able to record our experiences without using blinding camera lights!  It uses an additional infrared / ultraviolet light for illumination.

EM Pump

Picture
A device that creates a small electromagnetic field.  If  E.M. energy assists spirits with communication, this piece can give them an extra boost!     We have captured some interesting audio while running the pump.

Static Sensor

Picture
These sensors can be used individually or as  a group to detect changes in static fields.  As they light up, it could indicate the presence of a ghost!  By using multiple units, we may be able to track the direction of movement, as well.
